Le Chalet Des Peupliers
Le Praz sits at the bottom of Courchevel, a working village of timber chalets gathered...
White 1921 Courchevel was reworked by Wilmotte & Associes, and the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte gave the building a single organising idea: a geometry of triangles, a nod to the summits above, running through walls and floors from the entrance hall onwards. White lacquered brushed wood sets the tone at the door, natural light oak carries it through the furniture and panelling. Against a resort where carved pine is the default, the effect is deliberately contemporary.
The hotel holds twenty-six rooms across five categories, spread over a floor area of some eighteen hundred square metres. They are bright rather than cocooned, dominated by white with unexpected colour accents and furniture drawn specifically for the building. Several open onto balconies or terraces facing the slopes, which is the detail that matters most here: you can read the state of the snow before deciding how to spend the morning.
Two salons organise everything outside the rooms. The Grand Salon takes breakfast and the early start before the lifts, while the Petit Salon is the smaller room for coming back to, a place to sit with family or friends between the slopes and dinner. Keeping the two apart gives the hotel a domestic rhythm that a single large lobby would flatten.
The wellness offer is scaled to the house rather than to a resort spa: sauna, hot tub and a fitness room, the sequence most guests actually want after a full day at altitude. It works as a complement to the mountain rather than a reason to stay indoors, which fits a hotel built for people who ski first.
The address is rue du Rocher, on the Croisette in Courchevel 1850, the highest and most sought-after of the Courchevel villages. The slopes start at the door and the boutiques, bars and restaurants of the resort are within a short walk, so the hotel serves both halves of a Courchevel stay without a car. Courchevel 1850 also gives direct access to the wider Three Valleys ski area, which is what brings most of our readers this far up the Tarentaise.
White 1921 belongs on this list because it answers a specific request: a design-led address in the heart of Courchevel 1850, run to luxury-group standards, at a scale small enough to feel personal. Twenty-six rooms, a real architectural signature, ski-in access and the resort's best-known street outside make it a straightforward recommendation for travellers who want Courchevel without the palace formality. It also travels well across seasons: the same central position that serves the ski weeks puts the hiking trails, the summer terraces and the golf course within reach once the snow has gone.
