New Openings
New and reopened alpine hotels across France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany and Slovenia — with an honest read on who each one is for.
New is not the same as good
A dozen notable properties open or reopen in the Alps every year, and most coverage of them is indistinguishable from the press release. We are interested in a narrower question: what does this place do that the valley did not already have? Sometimes the answer is a genuine gap — a design-led address in a resort that only had large hotels, a family property where every option was a couples retreat. Sometimes it is a renovation that changed the name and the rates and nothing else.
We cover openings, reopenings after major renovation, and changes of hands significant enough to alter the experience. Where a property is too new to judge fairly, we say so rather than pretending otherwise.
Once an opening has settled, it enters the destination selections: Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia.
