Are all of these newsletters free?
Most are free to subscribe to, including the majority of the hotel trade briefings. Several of the independent Substacks operate on a free-plus-paid model, where the weekly edition is free and archives, hotel lists or itineraries sit behind a paid tier. A few, such as certain trade publications and flight deal services, are subscription products from the start — the entry says so where we could confirm it.
Which ones matter most if I only care about skiing in the Alps?
Start with the snow and alpine section: Alpine Dispatches and The Alpine Dispatch are written from and about the Alps, Fall Line Skiing gives you a British-European editorial perspective, and SnowBrains covers conditions and avalanche safety daily. Add Italy Segreta if the Dolomites are on your list, and French Moments for the French side.
Why so many hotel industry newsletters in a list for travellers?
Because hotel supply in the Alps changes slowly and publicly: refurbishments, ownership changes, new openings and pricing strategy all surface in the trade press months before they show up on a booking page. Reading one or two industry briefings is the cheapest way to know which mountain hotels are worth watching next season.
